MidCoast Council is building close and meaningful relationships with our local Aboriginal communities, the Gathang speaking people of the Biripi and Worimi Nations. Our commitment is reflected by our actions, not just our words. Our staff have received invaluable cultural awareness training from Biripi and Woromi elders, who related the importance of this land to their people, told their stories, and shared their language.
Council also named our new administration and customer service centre Yalawanyi Ganya, meaning “meeting place” in the Gathang language.
We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from our region and across Australia to apply for roles at our Council. Not only will you find a culturally sensitive and welcoming workplace, you will also find a workforce that is keen to learn from you, benefit from your unique perspective, and grow a deeper relationship with the custodians of the lands we live on.
