Work begins on Gloucester Library redesign

Keen Gloucester readers are advised to be aware of possible disruptions to Library access over the next few months as the exciting redesign works get underway.
A works plan has been drawn up to ensure the Library refurbishment project powers towards completion, with the construction of the staff workroom and the meeting / study room beginning from around mid-July.
"This construction work is planned to take place outside of Library opening hours and be completed by the end of July" says MidCoast Libraries Manager Chris Jones. "Although Library opening hours will remain the same in July, there could be some inconvenience for users as access to some Library areas may be restricted as the works progress.
Chris Jones says that the Library will need to close from Monday 30 July until Saturday 11 August for the next stage of the redesign project.
Closure is essential to allow works including re-carpeting, re-painting, installing new shelving, new relaxation furniture, improved arrangements for the children’s area, new blinds, new PC desks, the introduction of an online catalogue, display screen, new signage, and the installation of a new circulation desk.
Chairs will also be purchased for use during Library events and together with the introduction of mobile shelving, will make it much easier for events to be held in the Library.
"While the closure is unavoidable, we will make arrangements so that your borrowed items do not fall due during the closure" says Chris.
The plan is to reopen on Monday 13 August - with the refurbishment complete and the new-look Library ready to go!
"The new design will not only update the look and feel of the library, it will enable the community to make much greater use of the space, thanks to the new room and flexible shelving" adds Chris. "We're very grateful for the participation of Library users in telling us what elements you need in your Library and for your continued participation as we incorporate these improvements."
