Update Monday 3/4/17:

These works have been delayed for tonight due to unpredictable weather.  With predictions that rainfall will occur early Monday evening, we are rescheduling our asphalt truck for one night this week to undertake this work.  A decision to proceed will be made based on daily weather reports and availability of the machinery.

Thursday 30/3/17:

Commencing this Monday night 3 April, Council road crews will install a new roundabout at Kent and Peel Streets in Tuncurry using $180,000 in funding provided through the Australian Government’s Blackspot Program.

With a focus on increased safety, traffic flow through this intersection will be improved as a result of these works. The new roundabout will be mountable to allow for longer vehicles, with complementary works including the installation of directional signage and line marking to assist drivers entering and exiting.

Stage one of the works will begin with night works on Monday 3 April to provide an asphalt road seal on the roundabout. "Night works are the best option for this stage of the works as a full road closure is required" said Council's Manager Operations (South) Jamie Condie.  "We want to minimise the effects on businesses, commuters, shoppers and residents that day-time road closure would cause."

"Works are scheduled to commence at 6pm.  We have planned to start as early as possible in order to undertake most of the noisy work earlier in the evening" said Jamie Condie.  "We acknowledge this work will result in considerable noise as rollers will be used to compact the asphalt and these machines are fitted with reversing beepers. We will be keeping machinery noise to within legal limits and will place lighting tower generators as far from residential areas as possible to assist in keeping noise minimised during the works."

Council advises residents to consider keeping windows closed overnight as asphalting works may cause an unpleasant odour.

The second stage of the project will include installing the roundabout, signage and line marking.  "This stage will take place during the day with traffic control measures in place, and is expected to be completed by late April, weather permitting" added Jamie.

Resident access will be unaffected during the works, although detours may be in place and traffic control will apply through the roundabout during the day-time works.
