More work for Old Bar Road
Published on 19 August 2020
Work will begin on rectification works to a failing section of Old Bar Road on Monday 24 August.
The 1.84km section from Warwiba Road to Berady Lane, was reconstructed in 2018. Wet weather has contributed to an unexpected failure along 170m of the road. Moisture has been trapped in the road pavement, weakening it and resulting in visible cracking on the surface.
“We have been monitoring this failure and the recent run of wet weather has prompted the need for rectification work”, explained Rhett Pattison, MidCoast Council’s Manager of Projects and Engineering.
“Ground water is penetrating into the road pavement and collecting under the eastbound traffic lane. Before we repair the road surface, we need to install new subsoil drainage lines to prevent the ground water entering the pavement in the first place”.
The works will take place in two stages, with subsoil drainage next week and pavement resurfacing planned for later this year in conjunction with the next section of major works on Old Bar Road.
The next major work planned for Old Bar Road is between the motorcycle club and Redbank Cemetery. This work is being planned for November.
Installing the subsoil drainage should be completed in one week, weather permitting, between 7am and 4.30pm each day. Traffic control will be implemented in conjunction with a single lane closure whilst work is happening.
