Lansdowne Road reconstruction works
Published on 07 May 2021
MidCoast Council will begin work to reconstruct a section of Lansdowne Road in mid-May, the first in a list of works planned for Lansdowne Road over the next five years.
The work will take place on a one kilometre stretch between Brimbin Road and Old Lansdowne Road and is expected to take about three months to complete, weather permitting.
The scope of works includes widening and reconstructing the existing road pavement, improving the Brimbin Road intersection, additional drainage and finishing with a two-coat bitumen seal.
Signage, guideposts and guardrail will also be upgraded as part of the project.
“This is a significant project that will not only result in a safer transport route along this busy connector road, but it is strategically planned to minimise ongoing maintenance costs,” explained Rhett Pattison, MidCoast Council’s Manager of Projects and Engineering.
“We know Lansdowne Road needs a lot of attention and it will be a focus area of ours in the future.”
This is just the beginning of planned improvements for Lansdowne Road with several sections listed in both the 1-2 year and 3-5 year road programs and the community can find out more information about planned works on the long-term rehabilitation and renewal program on Council’s website.
Motorists are asked to observe all roadworks signage, traffic signals, reduced speed limits and directions from road crews and to travel with caution through the area. Expect delays during the works but contractors will be working to keep it to a minimum.
The reconstruction of this section of Lansdowne Road is funded through a mix of capital expenditure, general funds and special rate variation.
