Have your say on boat ramp safety trial
Published on 03 February 2025
The first summer trial to restrict the use of the Little Street boat ramp in Forster is now complete. MidCoast Council wants to hear from users of the ramp and swimming baths area.
The two-year trial is a recommendation in the MidCoast Recreational Boating Infrastructure Plan. The safety trial bans motorised watercraft from launching at the boat ramp during daylight hours in December and January.
The aim is to allow safe pedestrian access around the amenities, café and baths.
During summer, the area is very busy with foot traffic crossing the boat ramp.
The boat ramp is congested with vehicles launching boats and people using the ramp with kayaks and paddle boards. There is also limited parking in the nearby area for boats with trailers.
“This year, with reduced boat launching, it was noticeably calmer around the boat ramp area,” said Amanda Hatton, Council’s Manager Strategy and Projects.
It’s estimated at least 3,000 people used the Little Street baths area during January alone.
“We want feedback from people who used the Little Street baths, boat ramp, toilets or café facilities during the trial period,” said Ms Hatton.
“We’d also like to hear how the restrictions affected you if you couldn’t use the ramp as a result of the safety trial.”
To have your say, visit midcoast.nsw.gov.au//boat-ramp-trial and complete the short survey. If you’re not online, you can leave a message or text on the community engagement hotline at 0419 980 566.
Feedback ends on Sunday 9 March, so be quick.
Council will consider all community feedback when the trial is reviewed.
