Improvements to the Bert Gallagher Grandstand at the Gloucester Recreation Centre are expected to be completed later this month.

The installation of hand rails and tactile indicators are the final tasks to be undertaken before the facility can be used by the community. It is expected to be open for public use in November 2024.

“We are delighted that the Gloucester grandstand will soon be open for the community to enjoy,” said Executive Manager Public Spaces, Liam Bulley.

The $765,000 project has been funded by a NSW Government Stronger Country Communities Funding allocation of $667,500 and $97,500 allocation of funds from MidCoast Council.

The scope of the project has been reduced from the original proposal due to the cost. The new grandstand provides seating for over 300 people and includes an accessible viewing area at the front of the structure. The facility is a significant improvement for spectators and will benefit regular sporting and community events held in Gloucester including rugby league fixtures, Carols by Candlelight and Gloucester Mountain Man events.
