Cundletown roadworks continue
Published on 04 May 2018
Stage two of the works to rehabilitate a section of Main Street in Cundletown are due to commence on Monday 14 May.
The area being targeted stretches 550m from King Street in Cundletown through to the driveway of Kingston Creek Creamery (1 Main Street), where MidCoast Council road crews have recently replaced kerb and gutter. In the initial stage contractors, working on behalf of MidCoast Council, also carried out drainage works that included the construction of a new dish drain.
With preparatory works now complete, stage two is set be undertaken from Monday 14 May and will continue for approximately two weeks until the end of the month, weather permitting.
In this final stage, the scope of works includes heavy patching of the existing road pavement and the application of a 50mm asphalt overlay.
“It’s a busy route that connects outer-lying residents to Taree’s CBD, and a prime candidate for a makeover that will deliver a smoother and safer driving surface”, explained Rhett Pattison, MidCoast Council’s Manager, Projects and Engineering. “The final asphalt treatment will provide a durable surface suitable for the high volume of traffic that Main Street carries on a daily basis”.
The works will be carried out during the day time with traffic control in place to direct motorists through the area, and minor delays should be expected, particularly during peak times. Restrictions to on-street parking within the work zone will be in place, however access to driveways will be maintained at all times.
Motorists are asked to observe roadworks signage, reduced speed limits, and directions from road crews, and to travel with caution through the area.
The Main Street reconstruction project is part of MidCoast Council’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the region, and will be delivered through a combination of NSW Government grant funding, Stronger Communities funding and MidCoast Council capital expenditure funding.
