Joe Rider is an annual motorcycle awareness campaign which encourages drivers to look out for motorcycles to reduce the number of SMIDSY (sorry mate I didn’t see you) collisions.
The campaign runs during Motorcycle Awareness Month, which is usually held during October each year.
Volunteer motorcyclists wear bright yellow ‘I am Joe Rider’ branded vests. Community members are encouraged to spot Joe Rider and register their sighting on the MidCoast Council website for a chance to win a #shopmidcoast voucher.
Meanwhile, be motorcycle aware. Regularly check your side and rear mirrors as well as your blind spots by looking over your shoulder, especially before merging or changing lanes and turning at intersections.
