New play equipment for Palmgrove Park

It’s great news for kids, and kids at heart, as the team at MidCoast Council prepares to replace ageing playground equipment in Forster’s Palmgrove Park.

Located alongside the Cape Hawke Surf Lifesaving Club, the popular park currently provides sheltered barbecues, picnic tables, shaded seating and a children’s playground. Now, due to its age and its exposure to the coastal elements, the playground equipment has been earmarked for replacement over the quieter, cooler period.

Works will be undertaken on Monday 30 April to close the current playground, during which time the existing equipment will be dismantled and the area fenced off.

“We do anticipate some down-time for this popular play space, but we’ve taken steps to minimise the impact on local families by planning the works after the Easter and school holidays, to take place during the off-season”, explained Dan Aldridge, MidCoast Council’s Manager Community Spaces, Recreation and Trades. “We’re currently waiting for confirmation on timings for delivery of the replacement units, and will work to have the playground opened again as soon as possible during winter”, he said.

The new equipment will be installed on the existing playground footprint, replacing the current units on a like-for-like basis. “While we’re not upgrading or increasing the size of the play space, replacement structures will be selected for durability and their ability to withstand the salt air environment, and we have the opportunity to contemporise the playground theme”, Dan said.

Local families and users of this recreational facility are asked to observe signage and keep out of fenced off areas while the works are undertaken.
