Gloucester residents are invited to add the final touches to their draft local community plan this month.

“Local community planning is about the Gloucester community coming together to develop a strategy for how they will achieve their aspirations,” said MidCoast Council’s Director of Liveable Communities, Paul De Szell.

“A local community plan helps to prioritise local projects and can support funding applications to make them a reality.”

“Council’s role is to support the community in the development of the plan, and it’s now time to add the final touches before it is completed.”

Work on the plan started back in late 2019 with a think tank session involving representatives from all sections of the Gloucester community, which looked at what people loved about Gloucester and what they wanted to see for the future.

Since then, a dedicated group of community members have been working to bring together a draft plan that outlines what is important to Gloucester’s future, based on the think tank data, Council’s Community Conversations feedback and reviewing a number of previous plans and suggestions.

Now Council and the Gloucester steering committee are asking all residents to review the draft plan, to decide which actions are the most important to focus on first, and to let us know if anything else should be included in the final plan.

There’s a range of inspiring actions in the plan, which aim to work towards the Gloucester community’s vision for its future in the areas of infrastructure, community, environment and economy.

You can visit the link above to read the draft plan, and complete the feedback activities online.

Otherwise, please drop into Gloucester Library or the Bucketts Way Neighbourhood Centre to read the draft plan and complete the feedback forms there.

If you are the convenor of a Gloucester local community group and are already holding COVID-safe meetings, you might like to incorporate a consultation activity into your group activities.

There’s a conversation kit online that you can use to run a consultation session.

High school students are encouraged to provide feedback on the draft plan, which includes several actions to help Gloucester’s young people thrive.

The consultation is open until 4.30pm on Tuesday 14 September.
