Australian Government

Australian Taxation Office offers a number of key services to assist business owners.

Austrade assists Australian businesses as they develop international markets and win productive foreign direct investment.

Business.Gov is an online government source for the Australian business community providing a range of free tools and resources. The website focuses on all areas of planning, starting, running and exiting a business, including links to various government websites.

Fair Work Ombudsman provides a small business helpline to assist business owners in understanding their priorities such as finding the right pay, calculating leave and auditing payroll. Fair Work also offers a Small Business Best Practice Guide to explain employer and employee obligations.

GrantConnect provides a centralised publication of forecast and current Australian Government grant opportunities and grants awarded.

Self-Employment Assistance program provides eligible unemployed people assistance with training, mentoring, income support and rental assistance to help them to become a self-employed business owner.


NSW Government

Business Connect is funded by the NSW Government. It is a dedicated and personalised program that provides advice to help you grow your small business. The provider of the Business Connect program in the MidCoast region is The Business Centre.

Easy to do Business program brings agencies, local councils and industry bodies together to make the process of opening or expanding a small business simpler and faster.

Mobile Business Concierges are part of the team at Service NSW who provide free, personalised support to small business owners as they start, run, and grow their businesses, and as they adapt and recover in times of crisis. Bruce Macleod is the local Concierge and can assist in navigating government requirements at local, state and federal levels, including applying for grants, licences and permits, understanding government regulations and more.

Office of the NSW Small Business Commissioner helps small businesses operate as professionally, as efficiently and as successfully as they can. Support provided by the Office includes:

  • serving as a neutral party in mediation and dispute resolution between small businesses or between a small business and a larger one or between a small business and government
  • providing high quality business advice and advisors with access to world class tools
  • speaking up for small businesses within government

Training Services NSW provides vocational education and training advice and information to apprentices and trainees and their employers. Training Services NSW is also responsible for the implementation of funded programs, including Smart and Skilled, apprenticeships and traineeships and adult and community education.
